Chancery Lane traffic restrictions begin again, but taxi access allowed to properties

In summer 2020, as part of City of London Corporation’s (COLC) COVID-19 distancing response, restricted through traffic on Chancery Lane between 7am-7pm, Monday-Friday was brought in.

The restrictions were lifted in autumn 2021.

A new experimental scheme will start on Monday 20 February 2023. This will restrict through traffic on Chancery Lane between 7am-7pm, Monday-Friday but allow taxis and vehicle access to properties and parking and loading bays.

The experiment will run for a maximum of 18 months and will be monitored by the City of London Corporation (COLC), looking at the effects on Chancery Lane and surrounding streets whilst gathering feedback from residents, businesses and other street users during this period.

COLC aims to make Chancery Lane a more attractive place for people to walk and spend time.

This monitoring and feedback will inform the decision on whether to make the scheme permanent.
